Sutton went through a phase where he didn't nap at his normal 1pm time, and this particular day, he finally went down at 5pm. I took this photo not realizing what was in store for us that night...
Since he napped so late in the day, we ended up waking him up after just an hour because we had a "family night" planned. We only had that one day free in what seemed like weeks, so we planned to go out to dinner, to the park, get a movie. Well, once we woke him up from his nap, he would not stop crying. It ended up being one of the most frustrating nights I've had as a parent ever. We ended up having to pack up all our food from the restaurant before we ate it and take it home, foregoing the park and the movie. UGH.
So Adam and I recovered by watching a movie in bed after Sutton went to bed and drinking some Dr Pepper:
But apparently I still think he's cute when he's sleeping. :) I wonder if he'll sleep with this many blankies and stuffed animals when he's 15.
He and I went to the park one night and he loved this bouncy teeter-totter.
Then he got a biiiiiig bubble bath. I never fill the tub up this much for him, and he liked it!
We went to dinner and out for frozen yogurt with friends the night that Adam graduated to celebrate. Sweet Izzy fell asleep on her Mama. Val's nails matched Izzy's outfit. And I'm pretty sure I made that flower on her headband for her baby shower.
Sutton hates the wind. He spits at it to get it to go away. ? Who knows. Anyway, one Sunday we were going into church and it was super windy, so Adam had to carry him the whole way like this.
That same Sunday afternoon, we had major bad weather. A tornado was coming right for us. We had to wake Sutton up from his nap about 2 minutes after he went to sleep to go downstairs. We hung out on the couch in the basement for awhile, and then it got really bad to we moved to our shelter under the stairs. It was a snug fit, but we were all in there. The meteorologists really had me scared when they said it was the first time in 20 years that they were going to take shelter. Luckily, we were all okay and the tornado missed us. But I believe it was the next day that the Moore, Oklahoma tornado hit.
After the threat was over, Sutton and I went outside to splash through all the puddles left from the rain.
We made leaf boats and floated them through the puddles. We put "people" (rocks and small sticks) on the boats. Now any time we have puddles, Sutton has to find leaves to use as "boaties."
One day, Sutton and I were just sitting on the front porch, rocking. He was quiet for a good 2 minutes (which NEVER happens). It turns out, he was watching a bird that had built a nest in a hole in the trunk of our tree. It kept poking its head in and out.
We went to the park and he really wanted to push me on the merry-go-round.
He can be such a lazy bum sometimes. Here he was, all sprawled out, watching a movie in our bed.
Towards the end of May, Sutton had his last day at daycare EVER! He will be home with Adam and I all summer, and then he's starting preschool in the fall twice a week, so we plan on going without daycare. I'm so grateful that I'm able to be home with him most of the time, but I'm also so grateful to Ginger for watching him once a week for the past year and a half so I could work. I had to take a few photos of him walking up to G's house for the last time (for daycare...I'm sure we'll still go here a lot to hang out).
And we tried for a picture with G, but he wasn't having it. Ginger, at least you look cute!
Daddy and Sutton hanging out in our deck box.
One of the last days that Adam had school, I was trying to figure out something fun for Sutton and I to do to pass the time until Daddy got home. There's a nature park near us that I take photos at a lot, but don't ever go to for fun. So we went on a walk...er..."a-benchur," as Sutton called it.
For a Throwback Thursday, I posted this photo of Sutton's first taste of something that wasn't my milk. Hilarious.
Adam retrieving an airplane from our roof.
Sutton just can't resisting laying on his Daddy when he's working under a car.
Sutton and Breegan decided to "drive" Grandma's car. They were having so much fun. After they were done, the blinker was on when I got in to actually drive it. :)
10-year-old Corbin was in the back, in the car seat. What's wrong with this picture? :)
The last weekend in May, I had to leave my boys for 2 nights to go up to Kansas City to photograph a wedding. So I snuck in some extra cuddles before I left.
Up in KC, I got to hang out with Rowan for a bit before I had to work. She's so precious. And smart! She knows all kinds of signs and nods her head, and can even walk now! Can't wait to spend more time with this sweet girl (and her parents) later this month (both her and Sutton have birthdays in a few weeks).
Me and the bride at the wedding I shot in KC. Lesley and I met on our very first day of preschool and went to school together all the way until we graduated high school. It was fun to be a part of her big day, and also to catch up with some other old friends at her wedding.
I got to stay in the Westin Crown Center the night after the wedding, and this was the view from my window 15 floors up.
And my view the next morning:
Rachael came to the hotel to spend the night with me since we didn't get much time to hang out while I was in KC. These beds were glorious and I can't look at this photo without wanting to crawl in there. She met me here after the wedding, and we walked to Crown Center for ice cream before going to bed and talking in the dark until all hours. Unfortunately, she had to get up to go nurse Rowan at 5:30am, but I slept in until 9:17!!!! Whaaaaat?! Can't remember the last time that happened.
Long story, but Adam's brother bought a boat that we kept at our house for a few weeks before taking it down to Beaver Lake last week. Adam spent many hours tinkering, cleaning, and waxing the boat. Sutton loved to help.
On Memorial Day, we went over to my parents house for dinner and Sutton played in this cattle trough that doubled as a wading pool for a bit.
From my Cinderella shoot:
Sutton's lizard (named Draco) hanging out next to Daddy's lizard (also Draco).
Luis and Val came over for lunch one day and I got to cuddle with Izzy.
My birthday was the 29th, and we went to Panera for breakfast.
Then I treated myself to a mani-pedi with some birthday money from my parents (thanks Mom and Dad!)...I noticed afterwards that the color I chose matched my Jeep!
Not only did Sutton sleep in until 8am on my birthday, but he also cuddled with me voluntarily throughout the day. He loves me. :)
That evening, Adam had invited some friends over to grill and hang out. The weather was rainy (which I love, so it was perfect for my birthday), so we ended up getting Papa Murphy's pizzas instead of grilling. Adam labeled the cups for the party.
Sutton wanted to wait outside on the porch for our friends, so I got a birthday photo with my boy.
We had lots of fun eating pizza and cake. Adam and I even cut my birthday cake together like we did on our wedding day. Because he'd ordered me a wedding cake because he knows how much I love wedding cake. And because our 7th anniversary was 5 days later. After that, we played a game. Here's Melinda and I, cuddling, haha.
Melinda asked Ryan to hold the whiteboard for her during her turn, and here was how he helped:
We went out to Chipotle for dinner one evening and the boys found and watched the trailer for the new movie Planes that's coming out this summer.
Working on the boat again with Papa Ed. I think it was later this day...I'd given Sutton a bath and when he got out, he told me to look at his fingers. I said "They're all wrinkly!" And he goes "Yeah, just like Papa's!" It was funny, especially because I don't think either of his Papas actually have wrinkly fingers...?
Three generations of Dreher men working on the boat.
Adam is amazing. I mean, really. He knows how to fix so many things, especially on our cars. I love that. I found him outside one day, covered in black (not sure exactly what) from head to toe.
We went to RiverFest on the first night to get our yearly fix of RiverFest food. We got Sutton a hotdog, but he preferred my chicken-on-a-stick.
The opening parade was going on while we were there, and Sutton loved watching the fire trucks and "racecars" but was not a fan of the loud noises they made and the cannons that were going off.
We parked a loooooong (long) ways away from the festivities, which made for a nice sunset walk back to our car along the river. Wichita CAN be pretty. :)
He is crazy. That is all.
