Hello! I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas that was stress-free and family-filled. We had a great one, and I have lots of photos to post later.
But today was a big day for Sutton. He LOVES airplanes and has a hundred toy airplanes. He's basically been asking to ride in an airplane since he could talk. I get "Mommy? When will WE get to ride in an airplane?" at least once a week. It doesn't help that we live in the direct flight path to Mid-Continent Airport so we are always seeing planes flying overhead.
We don't travel much, and most of our family lives here or within driving distance, so Adam and I haven't flown anywhere since 2009 and we don't have any trips planned in the foreseeable future that would require flying. So Sutton has never been in a plane and it would likely be awhile before he very would.
Daddy to the rescue! Adam keeps in touch with some of his past students, and one of them is at pilot school in Salina and has had his pilot's license for 2 years. Long story short, Adam pulled some strings and got Austin to agree to take them up for a ride. So on Christmas Day, we told Sutton about it and he didn't even know what to say. It was pretty great.
Today was a perfect day for a flight. I took a bunch of pictures before they went up. They flew from the Newton Airport, over our house and made a touch-down at Mid-Continent before circling around and taking the long way back. They flew for about an hour and 15 minutes. Sutton LOVED it. There is video to come, but for now here are the photos I took.
It's pretty crazy that Adam's past student is old enough to be a pilot (and taller than Adam!).
Austin's brother is a current student of Adam's and flew with them too.

Cute Boys & Christmas Lights
After last year's mini shoot with Sutton and the Christmas lights, I knew I had to do it again this year with both boys. I love how these turned out. Ren was very interested in the lights, even when they weren't on. Sutton...well, Sutton isn't that fond of sitting still for photos these days, which presented a bit of a challenge, but I think we did ok. Merry Christmas!!

Ren {10 Months Old}
Whoa whoa whoa. Ren, you are 10 months old today!

*You're a really good eater! You like veggies better than fruit, you think fruit is too tart. But usually I can still get you to eat it. You love puffs and are still working on getting them in your mouth by yourself. You are able to about 30% of the time. :)
*Other favorite foods are peas, green beans, chicken. We mix your purees with rice cereal and you seem to like the thicker consistency.
*Right now, I usually feed you baby food around 3 times a day - at each meal of ours. You nurse in between those, at nap times, and at bed time. It usually averages out that you still end up nursing every 3.5-4 hours. But sometimes you only nurse for like 2 minutes before you're done. Other times it'll be up to 6 minutes before you're finished.
*Just like when I'm getting your baby food, you're also very impatient when waiting to nurse. If we sit down in the rocking chair or I start making motions to get ready to nurse, you start whining until we start. You just like to eat. Period.
*You also love to be on the move. In addition to the lunge/crawl, you are constantly pulling up on things now. This is new in the last week along with the change in attitude. You aren't completely able to pull up on things by yourself, but that doesn't stop you from trying. You usually get about half way up before needing help.
*You would stand all day if we'd let you. You just love being upright. You have no balance though. But we are starting to wonder if you will skip crawling and go straight to walking.
*There are times lately when I'm tired of the constant movement, so I will just lay on the ground and let you climb over me. You like that game. There have been a couple of nights where big bro was in bed but you refused to sleep, so I laid on your floor and you climbed all around and explored awhile before wearing yourself out.
*You usually go to bed around 8:30, but this week there were a couple of 9pm nights.
*You have been waking up anywhere between 1 and 3 times each night. Much better than it had been. When we got back from our Colorado trip in mid November, you regressed and were getting up 4-6 times every night. Since I usually work down in my office til 12 or 1am, it was killing me. This is much better.
*You get up for the day between 6:30 and 7:30 typically. If it's on the early end of that, I bring you back to bed with me and we snuggle. Sometimes you'll doze with me a bit, but sometimes (like this morning) you will just crawl all over me and pull my hair and play with my face and be completely joyful about it. At 6:30 in the morning. I'm not a morning person.
*You nap about 2 hours after you wake up. So usually around 9ish. This nap lasts anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Then you nap again when Sutton does around 1:30 or 2pm. Lately the afternoon naps have been 3+ hours long, which has been wonderful. I think you're tiring yourself out with all the movement.
*You're still just the happiest kid on the block. You love to be passed from person to person. You get so excited when Daddy or I come home after being gone for a bit. You give us a huge grin and want to be held. You've started smiling on command when I have a camera. You give tons of smiles to Sutton. You even smile when I tell you "No."
*Your constant moving has presented a few new challenges. You are always trying to roll off your changing table, which makes changing your diaper or your clothes very difficult. I've always undressed and dressed you for baths on the bathroom counter, but that's been really hard lately too because you just try to roll onto your tummy so you can grab things easier. With the changing table, I've started giving you your stuffed moose to play with ONLY during diaper changes. You can't play with it any other times. That definitely seem to keep your attention away from rolling off. For now.
*Bath time has changed. You're all about sitting up and splashing and playing with toys. We did away with the baby sling and got a no-slip mat for the tub so you sit in there like a big kid now. I scoot you all the way to the front so your toys don't float out of reach as much. You love love love bath time. You would probably stay in there forever. When the water is running, you put your head in the flow and think it's funny.
*You still love your brother. You smile and laugh at him all the time...even when he's doing things he shouldn't be. He wishes you were bigger and could play with him more. I sure hope he's able to wait for you. I want you two to be best buddies.
*You've got this crazy old man hair. You look mostly bald from the front (unless you look really close), but you have lots of hair on the sides and in the back. Hopefully it evens out!
*You and Sutton can share socks! People have mentioned your hands and feet seem big, but I never really thought about it until I put some of the socks that Sutton currently wears (even though they're a bit small) on you and they fit! They go almost up to your knees, but they fit way better than your baby socks.
*Your bedtime routine has even been affected by your newfound craziness. It used to be that if you weren't tired, you would just lay there and stare at me while I sang to you, or reach up and play with my mouth. Now if you're not tired, you roll around and try to sit up.
*Our normal routine is pretty similar day to day. Sutton goes to school Monday through Thursday mornings. You go hang out with Grandma Janet on Monday and Thursdays from 8:30am til 11am so I can work. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, we hang out alone at home, doing chores or playing. Then we leave to pick Sutton up at 11 and get home by 12 (later if we run errands). We eat lunch, play or watch movies, and all three of us take a nap at 1:30 or 2. That lasts til 3:30 or 4, when we wake up and everyone gets into Mommy's bed to chill and watch a movie til Daddy gets home around 4:30. We catch up with him a bit and let him nap before he leaves for job #2. We play cars, color, hang out on the floor with toys, and make dinner. We try to do something as a family (lately those things have been Christmas related - Christmas lights, Botanica Illuminations, buy presents) before Daddy leaves for work. Then we do baths and read a book in Sutton's bed. He goes to sleep between 8:30 and 9. Sometimes you go to bed before Sutton, sometimes after. Depends on napping that day and how tired you're acting. I go work til 12 or 1am and usually you get up to nurse around that time. Then we wake up and do it all over again!
*You're a pretty snuggly guy. You are always burrowing in my chest or neck. And when we're cuddling in bed in the morning, you kind of melt into me. Maybe touch will be your love language.
*You have a goofy face you've pulled out a couple times on me and Daddy. It's almost like a giant grin, but too much to be real. And you do it more the more we laugh at it.
*The Bumbo and bouncy seat aren't as useful anymore. You twist and climb right out of the bouncy seat. The Bumbo we can still use if we're right next to you, but you can get out of that too.
See? Two peas in a pod:
Our monthly comparison!

We're in double-digit months, and we will only have one more of these month posts before you're ONE YEAR old!!
*You are probably somewhere in the 20-21 pound range. You're still in mostly size 12 month clothes. But your torso is so long that some outfits (such as the one we took photos in today) are 18 month size so that we can get them to snap. You wear size 3 diapers still.
*You have done a complete 180 on us in the past week. Last month, I stated (and I quote): "You definitely have your Daddy's personality and demeanor. I am a high stress person who has to remind myself to chill out and go with the flow. Sutton is that way too. You are just a chill, laid back little guy."
NO LONGER THE CASE. You have completely changed it up on us. You are not content to just sit and watch anymore. You will still sit with toys for awhile, but even that doesn't last long anymore. You often whine when I sit you down and walk away, which didn't used to be the case.
*You still can't crawl, but you sure can get around. You are so so close to crawling. You will get up on all fours and lunge forward, landing flat on your belly. You can get to most things this way, or by squirming around.
*You are finally able to sit back up on your own after laying down.
*You have become much more demanding with food. If you see me making your food, you start whimpering loudly until I come to the high chair. If I get up to get you more food, you flip your lid until you're sure I'm coming back with more.
*You're a really good eater! You like veggies better than fruit, you think fruit is too tart. But usually I can still get you to eat it. You love puffs and are still working on getting them in your mouth by yourself. You are able to about 30% of the time. :)

Snow!
Yesterday afternoon it started icing here, then that turned into snow. It was a beautiful, peaceful snow that glowed in the streetlights. It snowed all night and then this morning, we had a blanket of white to wake up to. And it's mid-30s/low 40s so not too cold at all. After I picked up Sutton from school today, we had a chance to play in it a little.
At first, Ren was excited to be outside. But then he realized that he was stuck in one spot while his brother was running around. And he tried to grab some snow and wet leaves and realized it was cold. So he quickly got whiny. This was his first time wearing shoes! I only put them on him for the warmth factor.
I think this will be forever known as the pink-snowboot-era. Sutton got these boots as hand-me-downs from his (girl) cousins and he loves them. And momma loves free snow boots. :)
I we built a snowman. Sutton added the "hair."
My three sons?
Ren was nearing breakdown mode, so I grabbed him and we sat on the porch swing while big bro played some more. I couldn't help but take a few more photos of him having fun.
And I'm so glad I did because the photo below is one of my faves. Like, all-time faves. He's so happy and snowy and such a cute little guy.
The Bama sweatshirt is also a hand-me-down from cousins. Good thing he is 12th down the line of cousins on that side. Not sure what we'd do without all the free clothes. :)
It'll all be melted soon, I'm sure. But it was fun while it lasted! And now that school is over today, Sutton is officially on Christmas Break! After the school day tomorrow, Adam will be too. Woohoo!

Colorado Photos {Part 2}
And here are the phone photos from our Colorado trip, which tell a lot more of the story of our time there.
I drove with my parents and we left after I picked Sutton up from school that Thursday. My dad was having a little too much fun texting me about it. :)
My parents rented a mini van from a friend so the boys and I could drive with them (Adam drove up separately so he didn't have to miss as much work). Sutton got the very back seat all to himself and his toys. Luckily, he took a nap on the drive.
Ren and I sat in the middle seats. He kept leaning his head forward to look at me, and smiling. Little flirt.
We stopped in Limon, CO for dinner that evening at Denny's. It was Ren's first time in a high chair at a restaurant!
We got to the house that evening and got all set up in our massive bedroom. I didn't take a picture of it, but it had a queen size bed, a futon for Sutton, a closet and dresser waaaaay bigger than anything we have at home, and there was still more open floor space than the entire upper floor of our house! We had our own bathroom in our bedroom too.
The next morning, we did a little exploring. Sutton went up to the loft that was above the living room to look down on us.
Mom, Sutton, and I played a rousing game of twister.
Adam drove through the night and got there mid-morning. Once he arrived, we opened presents. Carson's birthday was on Thanksgiving, so we celebrated a little early.
We had lots of meals around this table. You can't really see the kitchen in the background very well, but it was stocked and we cooked all of our meals there.
Adam isn't a big fan of doing "nothing" so he and the boys and I found a bowling alley and took Sutton bowling for the first time.
Ren would jump every time he heard the ball hit the pins when it was Adam's turn. Not when I did it though...I guess Adam throws harder.
Sutton didn't really like using this ramp thing. He was a bigger fan of pushing it down the lane. Good thing we had bumpers. :)
We shared a basket of fries and some Dr Pepper and Mt Dew. Bowling that day was a fun memory, and we had the whole alley to ourselves. The staff treated us great, and the main guy who helped us was named Adam! We should've known he'd be cool. :)
After bowling, we met up with my parents in downtown Estes. Michael and Sara had gone for a hike. We went in several shops along the main drag. I almost bought a sweatshirt but had to think about it and then didn't have time to go back. I tried to buy a Baby's 1st Christmas ornament in a Christmas shop, but they didn't have any cute ones, OR any ones that said Colorado on them.
Mom and Dad strolling through downtown.
My parents left and we walked around a bit more. I had Renny in the carrier on my front, wrapped in a blanket and he fell asleep. He's such a sweetie.
It's so fun to see these two cousins together. I hope they are buddies, despite the distance!
Ren doesn't move yet, but Carson crawls AND walks. So he was doing circles and Ren would just stare. Haha.
Sutton gets in sad moods for no reason quite often, especially after waking up in the morning or from nap. Grandma tried to distract him from his moodiness by reading him a book.
That day was Saturday, and it snowed like crazy all day long. This is the same tree as the one in my last post. I took this standing in the front doorway.
And looking out the back from our balcony. There are mountains out there, but you can't see them!
Ren did a really good job about falling asleep wherever he was, which was nice since we all got lots of cuddle time.
Love my boys.
That afternoon, we bundled everyone up and went sledding down a road right next to our house. Carson wasn't a fan.
This is the back/side of our house. The closest part is the garage. That upper balcony is where we took all of Michael and Sara's outdoor photos. The lower balcony connected to the downstairs living room and our bedroom.
Everyone was able to take a turn sledding, except me. I had to take my two kids back to the house after Sutton started complaining about being cold. :)
That night, Adam hung a white sheet from the upstairs loft and projected the movie Elf on it. So much fun!!
The next day was Sunday, and Adam left to drive home (so he wouldn't miss any work, once again). He got about an hour away and realized he still had Ren's car seat in his car. So he had to drive all the way back. I felt so bad. My dad and I jumped in Michael's Xterra and met him in town so he wouldn't have to drive all the way back up the mountain. On the way back, we saw this herd of elk lying down.
We got back and Ren was napping with Grandma.
Ren tried a sippy cup with water for the first time. He didn't really get much, or know what to do with it.
When I put Ren down for his nap that day, I told Sutton that when I was done, I would put him down for a nap too. While I was downstairs, Sutton hid behind the couch so I wouldn't be able to find him for his nap, and...fell asleep.
Sutton discovered the iPad this trip. Lots of monster truck and ninja games.
The day we shopped in downtown Estes, Sutton found this ninja sword with a case, ninja stars, and a bow and arrow set. He sat down on the floor of the store and just stared at it the entire time we were shopping in there. He wanted it so bad. He said he wouldn't ask for anything else on the trip. It was $12, so Adam caved. Here he is, posing with his sword.
And a quick and blurry photo of the three boys together before we left on Monday morning.
Our trip was great, and we made lots of memories. My dad had bought Nerf guns for all the adult males and they were a hit. We had lots of Nerf gun wars. We also played a lot of ping pong, and Carson kept stealing our ping pong balls. He even got up on the table to be an obstacle at one point. So much fun with the family. Hopefully we can do it again!

The next morning, we had cute babies in jammies. Ren is actually taller than Carson!
