Sutton { One Month }

I can't believe I'm finally here, doing your one month blog post. Way back when I started this blog, this was it's original intended purpose. To update everyone on my baby's latest amazingness. I'm so excited to finally be able to use it for that! It's been a long, difficult road, but I love you more than anything and would wait forever for you. You're completely worth it. Since you're a boy and will probably hate the mushy stuff, we'll move on to what you're up to at one month old.

* You sleep pretty well. We usually go to bed around midnight and you get up at 3 or 4am to eat and then again around 6 or 7am. Sometimes we go back to bed, sometimes not, it just depends on what we have going on that day.

* We've finally gotten the hang of breastfeeding without the help of a nipple shield. You lost weight right after you were born, and at first I thought I'd have to pump and feed you out of bottles. Then I discovered the nipple shield and it made my year because you finally latched on! And now, we only use the shield if you're super crabby and frustrated.

* We're going 2.5-3 hours between feedings. Sometimes longer, but we generally have to wake you up to feed you. Even if you're awake when it's time to eat, you rarely cry when you're hungry. Except at night...we let you go as long as you can take between night time feedings.

* You looooove pooping on mommy and daddy. It just shoots right out at us when we're changing your diaper. Way to go, kiddo.

* You're sleeping in our room at night, but that may have to change soon because you are so noisy in your sleep. We swaddle you, put your pacifier in, and lay you down at bed time, and even if you're awake, you keep pretty quiet. Unless your pacifier falls out, then you let me know. We've also been using a white noise machine on an ocean sound for you at night. I think I like it better than you do.

* You like to straighten your legs out when you sleep, so we usually have to wrap your long legs in a second blanket since one isn't quite long enough.

* You do SO good out in public. Most of our friends and family haven't even heard you cry. You just sleep or stare at whoever's holding you.

* We get so many compliments on how good of a baby you are, how amazingly cute you are, and how much you look like your daddy. You have his eyes and mouth for sure.

* We think your hair is strawberry blonde. I'm interested to see what color it turns out to be once you're a little older.

* Your eyes look grey right now. Which would be really cool, you know, since your middle name is Grey. And your nursery is grey. :)

* You still hate baths and getting your diaper changed. I don't blame you. The bath water isn't super warm and the wipes are pretty cold. Not too comfortable.

* You make the cutest faces and noises when I burp you. It's my favorite. You also like to cuddle into my shoulder and look at my face when I put you up there to burp.

* You love holding onto things...my shirt, my necklace, my hair.

* You love laying on your tummy.

* After our one month appointment this morning, here are your stats:

9 pounds, 9 ounces

22 inches long

Head circumference: 75th percentile (my boys and their big heads...)

* Most importantly, you are the cutest, sweetest, most amazing baby I've ever met. Your daddy and I are so blessed to call you our son!

A Few More from Our Shoot

Sutton is a month old today! I can't really believe that. Wow. I want to do a monthly photo but I haven't quite decided how or where, so I'll let you know how that goes. In the meantime, here are a few more photos from our mini-shoot in the front yard the other day.

French Toast

One of the things I love about my mom is that she will sometimes send me emails and put something in the subject line that has nothing to do with anything. It's very endearing. Hence, the title of this blog. (Also, any of you who know me, know I would never do a post about cooking of any kind since cooking isn't even really in my vocabulary.)

I had a few random things to blog about today.

-Moms: how early can you take a baby swimming?

-Tomorrow is my first wedding to photograph since having Sutton. I'm nervous and anxious, but glad to get back to doing something that'll get me out of the house. I'm nervous about being away from Sutton for so long. I'm nervous that my boobs are going to hurt from the length of time I'll be going without feeding him (I'm taking my pump just in case). I'm nervous about being up and busy for 6-8 hours. Aside from all that, it's supposed to be 100 degrees, so I hope I don't die of heat stroke!

-I've pumped several bottles for Adam to feed Sutton with tomorrow, but instead of stressing about it, I told him that if he runs out of bottles, to use formula. We haven't used formula with Sutton yet, so that makes me a little nervous. But I figure if it's just one or two bottles, it shouldn't change anything.

-We had our first diaper blow-out today. That was fun.

-Sutton will be ONE MONTH on Saturday. What?

-We have his one month appointment on Monday. I don't think I mentioned this on here, but he lost quite a bit of weight after he was born. He went from 9 pounds 2 ounces to 8 pounds 6 ounces. So they had us increase his feedings to every 2.5 hours and we've been going back to the doctor weekly to check his weight. Last Thursday, he was up to 8 pounds 12.5 ounces, and I'm hoping he's at least close to his birth weight on Monday. We'll see!

-He met his Uncle Matt (Adam's brother) and Cousin Bailey today. Bailey has a little brother who is 4 months old, so we were swapping stories and comparing notes. Here they are with Sutton.

 

And we got his social security card this week. How cute is that? It makes him a real person. As I was looking through photos on my camera today, I found that Adam had taken a photo of Sutton's first piece of mail. That's really cute too. :)

Interruptions

Yesterday during our photo shoot, we kept having interruptions. First, Adam came out and had to poke Sutton's chubby cheeks:

Then his two big brothers had to come out to check and make sure he was okay. And give him a little lovin.

You can see his umbilical cord in this one. It fell off last week.

In his cradle. He's wearing a 3 month onesie, but it's still baggy as you can see. I dress him in baggy clothes when I don't want to make him scream (the head holes are larger, which equals easier dressing).

Sutton Smiles

Sutton and Mommy had a photo shoot in the front yard today. I'll be blogging a lot more, but here's one I caught of him smiling. :)

Avenues

Gina: So you know how an avenue stops at each end?
Adam: nods
Gina: Well then what's the difference between a road and a street?
Adam: Spelling, mostly.

It's Official

We're parents.

I've gotten pooped on twice today, and Adam got it once.

Breast milk poop stains clothes and blankets. Did you know that?

Sutton makes a lot of dirty laundry for being so small.

Sutton's Quirks

I'm excited for when Sutton is a little older and we can really get to know his personality. But there are already several things he does that are super cute and since he may grow out of them, I figured I should write them down.

*He likes to hold his pacifier in his mouth with both hands. That's what he's doing in the photo in the last post where Diesel is trying to sniff him.

*When I put him on my shoulder to burp him, he wrinkles his forehead and looks at me and does these really slow blinks and makes the cutest little noises in my ear.

*This isn't a quirk, but he has a fat forehead. :) Most people's foreheads are hard because they're just bone and skin. But Sutton's is a little squishy.

*When he's not swaddled, he sometimes loses control of his arms and will have an outburst where they'll just spasmadically stretch outward.

*His burps can be really really loud.

*He likes to hold onto things, so sometimes when I'm nursing him, he'll grab onto the strap of my nursing tank top and just hang on the whole time.

*Sometimes when we give him his pacifier, he'll get real excited and shake his head back and forth and lunge at it.

*He likes to stretch his legs straight out and keep them that way.

*When he's sleeping, his breathing makes his whole body move up and down, up and down.

*He squeaks when eating, and makes crazy noises in his sleep. The noises may cause us to have to put him in his own room for night sooner rather than later...

*No matter how tightly we swaddle him, he always finds a way to get his hands out of the blanket and up by his face.

Firsts

Sutton didn't enjoy his first bath at home very much. But he's so cute even when he's screaming.

Since he was born in the middle of summer, we figured we should get him acclimated to the pool right away. Adam's parents are house-sitting for some people who have a pool, so we headed over there one day last week. Adam and his dad went swimming while Sutton, Adam's mom, and I hung out in the shade. I think he liked his first trip to the pool!

We got this cute bucket hat with whales at one of our showers, but it's still a little big on him. :)

Sutton also met his future wife for the first time last week. This is Avery and Ginger with Sutton and I.

He met his cool Uncle Michael and Aunt Sara (my brother and his wife) who live in Colorado and made a special trip to Kansas just to meet him!

Kinda crazy how we used to just be a family of four, and now there are seven of us! Plus Axl's butt. :)

Saturday night, we took Sutton to church for the first time. I dressed him in jeans for the first time too, but they were waaaay too big.

Here's a better look at his outfit (his onesie says I love Dad). Pardon my battle wound - that bruise is still from my IV!

Aunt Rachael's Photos

Rachael posted some photos on facebook today from when she was down here for Sutton's birth and I wanted to share a few of them.

This was my inspiration board during labor. Rachael wrote the message and then signed that it was from our dogs (with a paw print). When my dad came in the room, he added their dogs' paw prints as well as his own footprint. Weirdo.

Right after he was born. We were still in the delivery room.

He likes to suck on his fingers...the only problem is that he uses the rest of his hand to attack his face while he's doing it. Crazy boy.
