Thanksgiving {2010}
As is tradition, Adam participated in Thankscamping this year out at a campground north of town. Adam's brother Matt and his friends started this tradition several years ago, and I used to brave the cold too, but no more. Last year I had the pregnancy excuse and this year I had the baby excuse. I'm super glad I didn't have to sleep in the cold this year!
Sutton and I had fun at home watching Say Yes to the Dress, cleaning house, having a dance party, and we even had a sleep-over!
Thursday morning before we headed to my grandparents house, I bundled Sutton up and we stopped by the campground to hang out for a bit. Sutton kept making weird grunting noises, so we went inside a heated cabin nearby, and he stopped. Then when we went back out, he started grunting again. It was freaking me out, so we ended up leaving after just 15 minutes. Apparently my baby grunts when he's cold?

We had our big, awesome meal at my grandparents for lunch. Sutton wanted some of the food....sorry baby. Maybe next year.
My beautiful mom is still doing great after her shoulder surgery the week before.
Grandpa thought Sutton might like some pumpkin pie.
After lunch, all the girls gathered around Sutton and he yelled and squirmed around for us.
These are my three cousins, Rachel, Faith, and Hannah getting their picture taken with Sutton.
It was really warm in their house, so after all the playing, we stripped the baby down and he took a naked nap. :)
We had to leave a little early so we could stop by the celebration that was going on at Adam's parent's house. We weren't there for long, but we took a couple photos. Here's me with the boy and my niece Breegan. She doesn't say very many words yet, but she loves Sutton and is always saying "Baby Duhduh!" It's super cute. She likes to pet him too. Also notice his onesie...I couldn't resist getting this at the Carter's outlet in Newton. :)

When we got home, Sutton needed a nap with his puppy.
The next day, we had my other grandparents over to our house for lunch. We all cooked (I barely did, but I peeled potatoes and put them in a pot with water! It's a start!), and had another great turkey dinner.

Sutton { Five Months }
My sweet boy is five months old today. Wow.
At five months, Sutton:
*You're so LOUD. You love to hear your own voice. Especially when you're jumping or playing, you just yell and talk and have a great time.
*You have the cutest laugh. I love it. You laugh at us, you laugh at your dogs, sometimes you laugh at the ceiling when I'm changing you.
*You're so happy. Almost all the time. When we smile at you we always get a smile back, almost without fail.
*You're eating every 4 hours, which is great because it doesn't tie us down as much. During feedings, you still get really angry when I have to switch sides.
*You have a fake cry now. It's pretty endearing.
*As evidenced above, your double chin is as present as ever.
*You're wearing size 3 diapers, though we're still trying to get rid of some size 2s.
*Your sleeping is fantastic. You still sleep swaddled, and we have had a few long stretches in the past 2 weeks, like 7 or 8 hours. One evening we kept you up an hour or so past normal, and you slept the next morning til 10:30! You would've slept longer, but you were freaking me out, so I got you up.
*You're getting better at sitting up. You can sit up on your own for a few seconds before you fall forward. You always want to sit up though...if we have you laying back a little, you strain to sit forward.
*You've started kinda grabbing onto my shoulder when I'm carrying you. I like it.
*You take a morning, afternoon, and evening nap, and sometimes a few catnaps in between. Your favorite place to nap is on my chest.
*We now use 6 month + size pacifiers. You still often take it out and replace it with your fingers, but sometimes at night, it's the end of the world if you don't have your pacifier.
*You still haven't rolled over, but I think that's due to your big booty. You love to put both feet in the air, hold onto them with your hands, and then roll to your side. But that's as far as you get.
*You're starting to play with toys. We have a book that has a plastic bag material on the inside that's really noisy and you like to play with that in the car.
*Your hair is finally growing back! You had a bunch when you were born and then lost it all except the mullet at the back of your neck. It's finally coming back and it makes you even more handsome!
*You're wearing mostly 6 month size clothes, though a lot of that is too small. 9 month size seems to fit you well. We have a couple 3 month things that still work, which is weird.

9 Years
Nine years ago today, Adam and I had our very first date! Who would've known back then that we'd make such cute babies? :) Time sure has flown. Love you, buddy.

Sutton and Diesel: BFFs
I hadn't had a photo shoot with Sutton for awhile, so I decided it was high time about 10 minutes ago. Here's what happened.
Sutton's awful cute in his new (9 month size) monster onesie from his Aunt Rachael. But there's a dog in the background who's really curious about what's going on. Do you see him?
"Hey, guys...what's going on? Need any help?"

"Mmm...this baby looks tasty. Does he got any leftovers on his face? Checking...."
"Checking..."
"Nom, nom, nom."
He got what he wanted and settled in in the background.

Mom's Surgery
Wednesday morning, my mom had surgery to fix a tear on her rotator cuff in her shoulder. She fell off a ladder while painting her living room last year, and has had shoulder pain ever since. When the surgeon got in there, he found that the tear was minimal and to repair it would've caused more damage. They did, however, find that she had a bone spur, which was most likely causing most of her pain, and they removed that. It was a best case scenario type of thing because if they would've fixed the tear, she would've had a 4-6 month recovery, but with what they ended up doing, it will be more like a 4-6 week recovery. Awesome!
Mom's taking at least two weeks off to recover. Sutton and I went to stay with her today to help out and drive her to physical therapy. I, like the awesome photographer I am, forgot to take any pictures of Sutton and his Grandma together. Great. I did take a few other photos though.
The morning started off with me helping Mom wash and dry her hair. Meanwhile, Sutton hung out in the bathtub, and the dogs were very interested in him.
Then my Grandpa Rollie and Grandma Netta came over to goosh all over Sutton and see how big he's gotten. They really really love him. Really. It's cute.
Rory tried to be cute so he could get some of the attention. No dice.
After lunch, we went to physical therapy. Mom did great, and her therapist was impressed by how mobile she was, and how little pain she had. Meanwhile, Sutton and I stayed outside where Sutton tested how loud he could talk while in a quiet waiting room. He also made friends with two older ladies...one guessed he was 7 months and said "He'll be walking any second now!" and another guessed he was 9 months. Nope, just 4 1/2. I love my big boy.
When we got back to the house, my Grandma Norma came to visit. She held Sutton for a long time before it was nap time. I think he likes her. :)

Sutton's Day
So far today, Sutton has:
chilled on his Boppy while Mom ate breakfast
splashed around in the bathtub
(this is a common occurence now...apparently his fingers are preferable to his pacifier)
gotten all wrapped up snug as a bug in a hoodie towel
And tried on Dad's hat. It fits pretty great.
Sutton was tired from his long morning and is taking his first morning nap. He requested no photos.

Remember This?
Remember way-back-when I started a series of posting a "Top 5" on Wednesday? I didn't have much to post about, so I thought maybe we should bring it back. And I'm sure you can guess today's topic: Top 5 Things I Love About Sutton. :)
1. The noise he makes when he yawns. In addition to it being the cutest sound I've ever heard, I've always been a noisy yawner, so I think it's fun he takes after me.
2. How he smiles at the drop of a hat. He smiles at me, at dad, at his grandparents, at random waitresses. I hope he keeps this trait. He also laughs and that's pretty much the best thing ever.
3. How he's such a good sleeper. I don't know what I'd do if I had a baby that didn't sleep. Some mornings, he'll wake up too early for me, so I go get him and bring him back to my bed. Even if he's wide awake at that time, he'll usually fall back asleep with me.
4. The funny "old-man face" he makes when he cries. It's so endearing.
5. The simple fact that he's mine. I can call him my son.

Inspire Hope Run
This afternoon, Adam and our friend Ryan ran in the Inspire Hope Run out at the Waterfront. Ryan's wife, Risa and I hung out with Sutton, listened to the Clayhouse Band, and got Dr Peppers from Red Robin. After the race was over, there was an After Party with food from several local restaurants like Abuelo's, PF Chang's, Fox and Hound (shout out, I used to waitress there), Chester's, and Starbucks. Yummmm.

Sadly, we didn't take any photos of Risa and I or our Dr Peppers. :(
The puppies wanted to say hello. Axl's up on the chair that he probably shouldn't be on. But so cute. He went to the vet this week, and we found he's lost 6 pounds, which is awesome because he's a "tad" overweight. He weighs only 95 pounds now! And I must say, taking a dog to the vet (just like grocery shopping and going out to eat) is much more...interesting....with a kiddo in tow. I made Adam come too to help me out.
And Diesel had already taken his makeup off for the night, so he didn't want his picture taken. Notice the green fluff coming out of his pillow on the left side? Axl stole this pillow of Diesel's from it's spot under my desk, drug it into the living room, and chewed a hole in it so he could eat the stuffing. What a dummy.
