Christmas Eve 2014

As usual, I took too many photos and will have to break up the Christmas photos into several posts. First up, Christmas Eve. We went to our church's Christmas Eve service at 2:45pm and then made a pit stop at home to pick up Diesel and some ingredients before heading to my parents' house in Newton.

We ate a dinner of buffalo wings, berry/almond salad, bacon wrapped shrimp, chips and dip. Ren got a little hot after dinner, so we stripped him down. He had just started crawling the day before (he crawls now!!) and so he made his way around the living room.

Decorating a gingerbread house was always a tradition growing up. We haven't done it in years since my brother and I decided we were too old for it. :) I suggested to my mom that we start it up again with my kiddos, and so my mom bought all the stuff.

Sutton was more interested in eating all the candy than in putting it on the house.

Grandma gave him "the look."

Here's the Sutton we all know and love.

...and the Adam who hates pictures we all know and love.

I worked on a puzzle while they decorated the gingerbread house. Mom joined me later and we finished it. I love puzzles, but with two kiddos running around, I never get to do them.

Papa joined in the fun.

Then Papa Bruce read the Christmas story while Sutton and Grandma (and Ren) acted it out with the nativity. Sutton did really well with this!

Belle cuddled with her dad while listening to the story.

And Diesel cuddled with his dad.

Then it was time for a few presents, but I had to take a couple photos of the boys in their jammies with Grandma's tree first.

My favorite...I love how Ren is looking at Sutton:

We had let Ren open a gift at home earlier that day (the jammies he's wearing here). But other than that, this was his first time opening a gift. Per usual, the baby loved the wrapping paper most.

Diesel needed Grandma's attention real bad. :)

So many dogs.

We exchanged names for gifts this year, and Michael, Sara, and Carson weren't able to make it here for Christmas this year. So half of us got gifts and half of us will get them later. But you know, it was kinda nice that that wasn't the focus and it was more about spending time together. Papa had made our boys some really cool school buses.

Grandma rocked Ren to sleep and Sutton hung out with Papa so that Adam and I could take a quick dip in their hot tub. So fun. Then we loaded everyone up and headed home. We have started the tradition of sleeping out by the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve, so we set up the air mattress and all our bedding for that.

Sutton and Diesel cuddled.

I wasn't able to participate in this last year since I was pregnant and uncomfortable, so this was my first time.

Ren still slept in his room since he gets up during the night and since we didn't want to smush him. So during the night when I got up to feed him, I found Sutton in several funny sleeping positions. Here he is with his arm slung over Daddy's neck, and his puppy tucked safely under his other arm.

And here he is, sleeping horizontally across the bed so there's no room for anyone else. :) I slept on the couch so I didn't have to make a ton of noise trying to get off the mattress in the middle of the night.

Such a fun end to a great night. I love making memories with my little family!
