A Late Thanksgiving Post

I realize how late this is, but better late than never, right? We had one Thanksgiving at our house this year. The other two were at Adam's parents house and my Grandpa and Grandma Funk's house, but I only took pictures of the one at my house. So here goes.

My dad, who's an amazing chef, did most of the cooking. He, mom, and my Grandma Norma brought all the fixin's and cooked over here. My dad working diligently in the kitchen (with the obligatory sunglasses on his head...he even had those up there during our father/daughter dance at my wedding):

You have to understand two things. First, I'm not domestic. I'm not good with kids, I don't really cook, I don't enjoy cleaning or rearranging things. Second, Adam and I are total cheapskates at heart. With this in mind, I present to you our mismatched dishes. We don't own glasses...only plastic cups we've collected over the years. No judging, please.

My mom and I hung out with the dogs while Dad was hard at work. Gross picture of me, but the little guy's cute.

Mom and Diesel. Diesel's in love with my parents, particularly my mom. Probably because she gushes all over him like a grandma should. He always wants her to hold him when she's around, so sweet. This was probably the furthest they were apart all day. :)

My plate. Yum.

After lunch, we hung out and played Scrabble. Here are my Hiebert grandparents.

Dad doesn't really played games, so he watched football/napped, while Diesel perched on top of him in the sunshine and looked out the window/napped. They're quite the pair.

Check out Diesel's legs here. Hilarious.

And Axl was, of course, busy chasing shadows on the floor. That poor dog has so much disappointment in his life. He just doesn't understand that it's impossible to catch a shadow.

We also have a tradition of going camping over Thanksgiving each year. This has been coined Thankscamping. I FORGOT TO TAKE ANY PICTURES. Sorry. Adam stayed out several nights with his brother Matt, our friend Scott, and some other people. I went out there in the evenings to hang out by the fire, but didn't stay the night. I like my bed. :) There was lots of good, campfire-cooked food and good music.

On Black Friday, I didn't wake up at 3am like last year, but Adam and I went out around 11am and scored some deals. We got a new camera and a bunch of DVDs at Target, and I got some clothes at Old Navy. And I made a stop at Coldstone for ice cream. It was so close, I couldn't resist. That was our Thanksgiving!

Thanks

Wanted to say thanks to all of you who messaged, facebooked, commented, and prayed for us on Tuesday. It meant a lot to have so many thinking of us and lifting us up in prayer.

The day wasn't quite as hard as I thought it would be. The anticipation was worse. I had a good thing happen that I will share about in another post. I took the day off work, had lunch with Lindsey at Panera (they have new and amazing macaroni and cheese), and just chilled. The new Harry Potter movie came out on DVD that day, so I rented it, watched about half, and went to bed early.

Thanks again for thinking of us and being such a blessing in our lives!

Proverb

I have shown you the way
that makes sense;
I have guided you
along the right path.
Your road won't be blocked,
and you won't stumble
when you run.
Hold firmly to my teaching
and never let go.
It will mean life for you.

-Proverbs 4:11-13

Our Little Family

I posted this on my photo blog, but figured there may be some of you out there in blogland who don't read both my blogs.

Lindsey took a picture of our little family today in the FREEZING cold. As I was editing this photo, I made the comment that "Everyone I love is in this picture!" and Lindsey got really offended, haha. So maybe not everyone, but I sure do love these boys a lot. :)

Texas

This weekend, Adam and I drove to Texas. There was a fly-in in Dallas yesterday and I went along just to get away, since my due date is Tuesday. I wanted to make it a long weekend and not come back til Tuesday, but we unfortunately (fortunately) have jobs and other responsibilities we had to come home to. I only took one picture. Sad.

We left Friday evening after Adam was finished with school and drove 5 hours to Dallas to our hotel. Yesterday morning we slept in a little and had Texas-shaped waffles at the hotel. Should've gotten a picture of that. Then we drove over to the park where Adam's flying deal was, and he surprised a couple of his friends who didn't know he was coming. We'd brought along Adam's dad's GPS, so Adam gave me some money (which NEVER happens, thanks babe!) and I set off to go shopping. I found a gigantic mall in Grapevine. To give you an idea, their Forever 21 store was like the size of 1/2 a Dick's Sporting Goods. All the stores were super-sized. I spent way too long in Charlotte Russe (but got some really cute stuff!) and ran out of time since it was lunch. Adam wanted food and I was going to meet my friend Ginger (different Ginger from the one I work with) who lives in Ft. Worth for lunch.

Ginger has been really supportive through everything that happened this year. She and I met in May at the Kelly Moore photo conference thing we went to. We had a group of 8 photographers there, and they were all super cool. Facebook has allowed us to keep in touch, and when I made a comment on my status that we were coming to Texas, we made plans to have lunch. Ginger's been through a lot of the same stuff I have. We're both photographers, we both had miscarriages this spring. It was nice to talk to someone who's been through it and isn't afraid of stepping on your toes by saying the wrong thing. We ate way too many breadsticks and way too much salad at Olive Garden before saying goodbye. She even brought me some Christmas candy she made. Here's the one picture from the weekend, Ginger and I leaving the restaurant:

I went back to the park where Adam was around 2pm and read Harry Potter (I'm on the last book!) and took a nap in the car. Then we loaded up around 4 and headed home. Stopped in Oklahoma for pizza, yum, and got home around 10:30. It was a quick trip, but fun and well worth it. This morning we slept in and went out to breakfast at Jimmy's Egg. We've also already had a nap. I love weekends.

Christmas Tree

Our Christmas tree is finally up! It's been sitting half finished since Sunday. Adam finally helped me put the silver string of balls up, which turned into an argument about the best way to go about it...I'll just do it myself next year. Love you, babe. :)

Anyway, our tree looks super cute in its little corner in the living room.

Diesel was real tired after helping me put up the tree.

I love putting up our tree because it brings back so many memories. Almost all our ornaments have been gathered in the years since we were born, we haven't bought any. I made this snowman in 1992 in art class. I think that must've been 2nd grade.

My Grandma and Grandpa Hiebert have given me an ornament every year since I was born so that when I had my own family, I would already have a bunch of ornaments for our Christmas tree. This bell is from my very first Christmas in 1985.

This is Adam's favorite childhood ornament.

And of course we have a few updated ones. This was from one of Adam's 5th graders.

And a little photographer bear for me. It's hard to see, but he's holding a camera.

I dug out the picture of the tree from our first Christmas after we were married in 2006. I remember calling it the Charlie Brown tree because it was so ugly. This years tree is much prettier. :)
