Things Sutton Says...

Sutton has always been a good sleeper, and his bedtime routine always consisted of us simply changing his diaper, putting on his pjs, and laying him in his bed. Lately though, he's been asking us to "wock" (rock) him when we tell him it's time to go nigh night.

I don't mind this rocking, I actually really enjoy the time spent cuddling with my sweet boy who doesn't squirm as much when he's sleepy. Our problem has been that we'll rock him to sleep and then once we stand up to put him in bed, his eyes will fly open and he'll say "Wock! Wock!"

We've tried a couple different tactics to remedy this problem. My first idea was to give him a time warning....telling him "we'll rock for 2 more minutes, then we'll go nigh night....okay, 1 more minute." That didn't really work, but now after I change his diaper for bedtime, instead of asking to "wock," he holds up his little pointer finger and asks "one mo minute?" I say, "Yes baby, we can rock for one minute."

Adam came up with the real solution. After we've rocked him to sleep, when we stand up to put him in bed, if he asks "wock? wock?" or "one mo minute?" we say "No baby, you gotta go nigh night because Mommy has to go nigh night too." Apparently he's a sweet considerate boy, because he always calms down and quits crying and says "Nigh night too?" and then goes down without any fight or tears. Love my sweet boy.
